From the Headmaster
Our Years 7-9 students settle into examinations this week. One of our Year 8s has just told me he clocked up 10 hours on the weekend working through his study guides. What a terrific effort, definitely taking to heart Lao-Tzu’s maxim: “A scholar who cherishes the love of comfort is not fit to be deemed a scholar”.

 Current Sporting Information and Handouts

Redfield the best performed school in the Hills Zone!

Last Wednesday the 6 Hills Zone Sports Cometition had its final days play. Redfield had 3 touch rugby teams, 2 soccer teams and 1 AFL team. All teams were playing for a top 2 finish. The competition went for 8 weeks starting on the first day of term 3 and after a couple of byes and an interuption with the dust storm the finals were eventually played last week. I personally want to congratulate all the year 6 boys for showing great sportsmanship and good courage to play fair and not let decisions that went against them get them down. All the boys played in the ideal spirit of the competition which is designed to introduce the boys to a more formal style of inter sports competition compared to the preious gala days they are used to. This sets them up for mid week sport next year as well as great practise for their weekend games for those involved. A special thanks to Mr. Metcalf (My predecessor) for his help with selecting teams and guiding the AFL boys to a top 2 position out of 9 schools.

The final standings for each team were....

Touch Rugby -

Redfield 1 = 1st place in dviision one.

Redfield 2 = 2nd place in division one.

Redfield 3 = 1st place in division three.

Soccer -

Redfield 1 = 3rd place in division two,

Redfield 2 = 1st place in division one.

AFL  -

Redfield = 2nd in division one.

Redfield 1 and 2 were in what worked out to be the grand final for the touch rugby competition. Fantastic effort for both teams who were undefeated all competition. Redfield 1 got Redfield 2 in a touch match 5-3. Redfield finished 1st  and 2nd out of 18 teams! Redfield 3 after a slow start to the competition finished very strong to top their division winning their final match 8 -0. Well Done Touch football boys!!!

In the soccer it was Redfield 2 who finished on top of the pack going through the whole competition undefeated against over 21 teams! Some great skill was shown by Redfield 1 and an unfortunate outcome in their final match finishing with a draw 0-0 which meant they missed out of a top 2 by only 1 point!

Finally the game nobody wanted to play but showed great courage to give it a go was the AFL team. Out of 9 AFL schools we finished 2nd. Fantastic effort.

Well Done to all the boys once again and it truly shows the never say die spirit we have here at Redfield.

We have future Stars in the making.

Go Redfield!!!!

Year 4 AFL Gala Day
On Tuesday 19th May all of Year 4 attended a Hills Zone AFL Gala Day at  Hills Centenary Park. The AFL Development Coaches attended and started the day by teaching all the students the skills of AFL. They then participated in lots of round robin games. It was an absolutely fantastic day and I know there were many AFL enthusiasts created as a result. Students were given information about playing AFL in their local area if interested. Thanks to Mr Kenny and Mr Ward for managing their teams.

AFL Paul Kelly Cup Rep Trials
Last Wednesday the 27th of May was the AFL Paul Kelly cup Rep trials at Centennial Park in the city. It was a wet day and our boys had to look up to these larger boys who specialise in AFL. As you know Rugby is our sport, of course football (soccer), cricket, basketball but not AFL. The boys did very well to make this rep day and were competitive from start to finish. We lost to Mosman in the first game, a team who made the semi finals and were almost double our size and speed. Our next two matches were very close but just missed out on both games by a goal. The highlight for the boys was seeing the Sydney Swans players chat to them and sign the match ball as well as anything else they could find. A big thankyou to Maria Panayi who drove some of the boys down and leading the way to the venue, made getting there so much easier!

CIS Cross Country
Last Thursday was the CIS cross country held at Eastern Creek Raceway. We had 7 boys represent the Hills Zone that day and were up against the best runners in Sydney. Over 90 runners per age group and although we didn’t have any secondary boys go through to NSW it was a great effort by all of them. Christopher Munoz was our best result finishing 14th out of 90+ runners. Well done to all our runners who made the squad.

Angus Cox through to NSW!!!!
In Primary we had one represent Redfield College in Angus Cox who made the IPSHA cross country team to compete at the primary CIS carnival the same day as the secondary. He was well prepared, rested, stretched, and mentally focused on his race. With the support of his parents and the Dolly’s who had their daughters competing, Angus managed to finish the race in 4th position. A fantastic result beating over 90 runners! He has now made it to the next level which is NSW and will run at Eastern Creek late July. Congratulations to an all round Athlete who has done Redfield proud in yet another sport!
