From the Headmaster
Our Years 7-9 students settle into examinations this week. One of our Year 8s has just told me he clocked up 10 hours on the weekend working through his study guides. What a terrific effort, definitely taking to heart Lao-Tzu’s maxim: “A scholar who cherishes the love of comfort is not fit to be deemed a scholar”.

PARED (Parents for Education)

What is the PARED?

The Parents for Education Foundation, also known by its acronym PARED, is the non-profit company that founded Redfield with the objective of establishing and operating schools and other projects with similar educational aims. The Foundation operates Tangara School for Girls, Retaval Infants School (Wahroonga), Retaval Infants School (South Strathfield), Orchard Hills Preparatory School, and Wollemi College (Werrington). PARED also publishes Perspective magazine, a family and parenting magazine, and an educational service which conducts parenting programs.

PARED oversees the ethos of Redfield, and makes financial and developmental decisions.

PARED members are parents or founders who have been associated with the school for many years. An explanation of the structure of the company and list of members of the Board and of the membership of various committees is to be found in Appendix F.

Company Structure

The Articles of Association of the Company distinguish three types of membership: Parent Members, Ordinary Members and Senior Members.

Parent Members are appointed by the Board from among the parent body of the PARED schools at the time.

Ordinary members can be anyone whose expertise is considered by the Board to be valuable in the running of the schools and other educational projects.

Senior Members are the founding members of PARED and anyone appointed as such from among the members of seven years standing in the Company.

The appointment of the Board of the Company as well as any changes in the Memorandum and Articles of Association is reserved to Senior Members. They also appoint other Senior Members. The Board makes all other appointments and is responsible for the running of the Company. All the members of PARED are eligible to vote at the A.G.M. and to be elected to the Board.
