The first game of the season and the first game ever for the boys resulted in a close game. Redfield batted first and managed to achieve 112 runs with only 4 wickets falling. The opposition were kind and lent us two players who batted very well but were not fond of fielding. The boys then bowled and having never bowled before managed 5 wickets. However the opposition scored 113 runs and were victorious on the day. The result showed that our boys have the potential to achieve strong results and this week we will be focussing on bowling with straight arms at training. Top batter was William Johnston with 14 runs and strong bowling from Matthew Reid with 3 wickets for 8 runs. Well done team! The team still needs another 2 players so if anyone is interested please call Tracy on 0438 875 537.

Redfield vs Upper Hills - Lee: Day 1 Redfield 1 for 340 dec. Upper Hills 0 for 3 On the first day of a new season the weather was perfect, as was the team’s execution against a depleted Upper Hills team. As the smell of liniment is replaced by linseed our opening batsmen put the opponents to the sword. Three 50’s at well over a run a ball set the tone for a day of leather chasing by the Hills team. Alex and Nick Dolly and Kennedy Maeder all scored fifty before having to retire. With the rest of the team also making rapid and empathic contributions we built a formidable score in 42 overs. Angus (26 n.o.) and Hamish Cox (6 n.o.) kept the score board ticking with boundaries and the St Madeleine’s boys James Dowers (20 n.o.), and Luke Tindale (12 n.o.) showed how to hit a ball. The old stagers Sam Crouch (12 n.o.), Dominic O’Brien (19 n.o.) and Bailey Forrest (2 n.o.) made their usual solid and telling contributions and showed great maturity and skill in their innings. Anthony Pintado was unlucky to loose his wicket to one of the few straight balls we faced as evidenced by the 86 sundries conceded. A magnificent effort all round to post such 340 at a shade over 8 runs per over. Having declared we managed three good overs at the weary opponents but with no luck. Well played boys but remember it’s not always going to be this easy and we won’t be facing De Vito bowling (too short and too wide), every week. A great start to the season now lets see if we can execute with the ball next week as well as we did with the bat this week.

Redfield vs Berowra 9/197 Having lost the toss the boys were in for a long day in the field, with the temperature rising. After an early runout by Luca Baroni there was a dry spell in wickets before the boys rallied getting 6 wickets for 30 runs. Outstanding performances from Peter Watkinson and Gerard Rajakariar, including a wicket in his first game and a two wicket haul from Jordan Cuddihy on his return to cricket were highlights. Brendan DeSouza bowled extremely economically with 2/14 from 8 overs while Jamie Burfitt, Ben Watson and Isaac Holmes claimed the other wickets. Despite obvious fatigue in the heat, a great first week boys and a good performance in batting next week should see you claim a victory.
U15’s
Temperatures set for 30 degrees and the players eager to start the new season Redfield U15s were pleased to win the toss and elected to bat. Stuart Hodges and Brett Gooderham opened the innings and made steady progress with the first wicket ( Hodges 62) falling at 117 with a catch to mid off. Tom Lee came to the crease but only stayed 5mins before misjudging the line of a ball from Matt Baglin and being bowled for 7 runs. This brought Matthew Campling to the crease at 122/2 . He and Brett steadied the nerves and put on a partnership of 44 before Gooderham was caught 3 short of his 50. Oliver Winkcup came in at No 5 with the score at 164 after 47 overs. The partnership of 25 was ended after Matt Campling skied an easy catch trying to force the pace. His departure for 39 and the score at 189 brought Jansher Khan to the crease. He and Oliver pushed on with fine efforts of 21 NO and 36 NO respectively to conclude the innings at 235 for 4 after 60 overs. This score could have easily been 20 -30 runs more if not for some excellent ground fielding from Upper Hills.
