Redfield 4/55 were defeated by Upper Hills 2/90 The team took two good wickets including a terrific catch from Jordan Duffy as wicketkeeper and bowled by Ben Ragell. The other wicket was taken by Jack Gallagher. The boys definitely batted better with Matthew Reid top scoring closely followed by Austin Gallagher. Both Joshua Wijangco and William Johnston opened the batting line up and faced some hard balls. Also good batting and running between wickets from Matthew Murray. The boys attention in the field was a lot better this week with Coach Gallagher praising them for the fielding skills. A early game next week will hopefully see the boys victorious. Well done boys and keep up the enthusiasm.

Redfield 7/191 runs vs Kissing point (batting next week) Redfield went into bat and despite the 40 metre boundary and a very slow wet field, the boys managed great shots with Tom Ragell and James Moore hitting 3 fours each. Nick Abrams had another outstanding day facing 24 balls not out and great calling between shots. Great blocking by Jeremy Browne. Weekly prize for best teamwork was awarded to Matthew Juan for good reading of the play and field, supporting his batting partner and encouraging the waiting batsman to warm up. Top batters were Thomas Ragell 30, James Moore 32 and Christian Dennis 20 n.o. Good game boys and it is our turn next week to bowl and field as well as we do in training. Alison Dennis

Redfield Under 12 Red Day 1: West Pennant Hills Gold 172 All out On a perfect day for cricket the game ebbed and flowed like the spring tide. The WPH openers built a solid partnership and without an early breakthrough it was disappointing to see how quickly our heads dropped. Cricket is played as much in the mind as on the field, and negative thoughts and attitudes give the opposition an advantage. Fortunately they were scoring slowly but we did not look like taking a wicket. Clever use of the slower bowlers by Alex kept the pressure on the batsmen to score quicker. Eventually we were rewarded with a breakthrough off the naggingly accurate bowling of Anthony Pintado. At drinks they were 3 wickets down and Coach Dolly set the team the challenge of bowling them out before their allotted 50 over's. This looked nigh impossible but the boys rose to the challenge and produced some disciplined accurate bowling and fielding to do just that. Destroyer in chief was James Dowers (3/15) including a caught and bowled, supported by Nick Dolly (2/7), Phil Di Matteo (1/9), Kennedy Maeder (1/12) and Angus Cox (1/31). Although ending wicketless the highlight was a spell of 5 maidens from Sam Crouch and Bailey Forrest. This was a magnificent effort given the stage of the game that frustrated an built the pressure on the WPH batsmen. Their push for runs saw a direct hit from Domenic O'Brien strand a bewildered WPH batsman short of the crease and Luke Tindale and Hamish Cox were solid and effective in the deep. A great performance to keep the opposition to only 172 with 3 overs to spare. It was marred by an inconsistent bowling display with 39 extras - their second highest score - and some dropped catches. A disciplined and sensible approach to our batting will be needed next week if we are to reman undefeated. A good effort boys after a shaky start.

Redfield Blue vs Upper Hills McGrath 6/243 Let's focus on the positive aspects of this innings boys - the excellent start from Hayder, Brendan and Ben had you positioned at 4-41 after only 13 overs. Some improved consistency in bowling throughout the match was a real improvement on last match and we cut Sundries down by 30. (let’s aim for 30 to be our maximum now). There was good attitude at the drinks break and everyone was positive. Over the next 15-20 overs however, some of the problems that lost us the game last week crept back into your game. I know Mr. Holmes speaks for all the parents when he says that doing our best and losing to a better side is perfectly acceptable, but not responding to what the coach is asking, not listening to our team mates and in particular the captain and disrespecting our team mates by not trying, then I am afraid that every team in the competition is going to beat you. As a team, we need to realise that for 3 ½ hours each Saturday we all need to concentrate, take pride in ourselves and give our best and work hard as part of a great team. As we saw a few weeks ago, no one or two people are going to carry a team to victory. Each of us is equally important and we each have the ability to improve in batting, bowling and fielding, and positively impact on the mood of our team-mates - it's your choice. We are very pleased to see that every one of the boys has shown improvement in individual skill so far this year. It seems concentration on the field and playing FOR the team is what we need to work on now. Let's do that, starting NOW. Despite the lessons of a hard day on the field, we have a very achievable 244 to reach for victory. With a positive attitude and a commitment working as a team we can win this. See you all at training.
