Basketball Fundraiser SunBlock
ISA Player Information Sheet
Hills Basketball Association Weekly Competition. All team draws can now be found on the Basketball page together with the score bench roster. Managers please look for this and remind your teams earlier in the week of the game time and family responsible for score bench duty. Families themselves can download the schedules and place on the fridge possibly. Note: There are four weeks left of the competition before the break for the Christmas holidays. Managers please contact your families to confirm their availability for the games scheduled during the first weeks of the holidays and those games that resume before the start of Term 1. In particular the U20’s as their games resume on the 13th and 20th January 2010.
Well done to the U13 Redfield Roos! Teams playing in yesterday afternoon’s games found themselves experiencing extreme heat conditions. This didn’t seem to deter them from the job at hand though. In particular the U13 Roos. This is a composite team of U12’s, new players and some returning for the summer. They played possibly the leaders of their grade but the heat from both the weather and this knowledge did nothing to distract them from the job at hand. Neck and neck throughout the game. They lost by only a few baskets. Their coach Emma was heard to say how really impressed she was of their performance. The team, Lorenzo, Jesse, George, Lachlan, Jake, and Sean Paul, playing short without Jordan who was out with chicken pox, and Chris. Well done again! Impressive!
Bench (Score table) Duty
Please help your Manager by being proactive. We ask that you notate and if you are unable to attend that you arrange for a swap and notify your manager of the change. Please help by attending if you are rostered on. Please do not ignore this, in particular the senior teams. Please support your son’s team by attending, if not every week but at least some of his games and helping in this way. Someone has to!
Training
U10 and U11’s train each Friday, behind the Primary Building, 3.10pm to 4.10pm during Term 4. Conditions are not ideal but we need to connect each week if only for an hour. This is every Friday afternoon without announcement unless it is cancelled due to weather conditions. Then, families will be contacted and the players will be notified during class. Please refer to the Training Schedule on the Basketball page. Teams do not need to be reminded by the Manager each week. Where was everyone last week? U12’s, U13’s x 2, U16’s and U18’s continue Saturdays, Bernie Mullane, 6.50am to 8.30am. until Saturday 12 December, 2009.
Skill Sessions(U10 Rookies I) conducted by the Hills Basketball Association, continue Saturdays at the Hills Sports Stadium 10.00am to 11.00am. We have around 10 signed on thanks to our dedicated recruitment officer Maryanne. Say no more. For those who may be interested, but a little slow in the decision making, why not sign up for Term 1, 2010? Be active. Whilst considering what winter sports may be desired, why not try these skill sessions that cater for 7 years old up to 13 years old and beyond. Fundraiser – SunBlock Suncream.
Have you thought about being prepared for the lazy hazy days of summer and the coming holidays. Order forms available on the basketball page. Although we are winding up and asking families with outstanding payments to finalise, we have kept some stock, so, don’t be caught out in the sun without this very economic and genuine fundraiser product.
ISA Competition
Last Saturday was again a win for all five teams and the last home game this side of Christmas. So far it has been a good run for us however, this coming Saturday’s games will be challenging and a true test of our strength against the table leaders, St. Augustine (Brookvale). Appreciation to all the families who responded and supported their team by doing score bench duty. Also thanks again to Michellin Dielwart in organising the supper after the Open’s match each home game this half of the season. Two to go. From what I am told many a wound was healed and sore egos soothed by the hospitality extended to the visiting teams and their staff. Congratulation Matt Stephens et al.
REDFIELD versus ST PAUL’S GRAMMAR - Saturday 14 November 2009
First V
Our final home game for 2009 was once again held at the Bernie Mullane Stadium and did turn into a ‘Battle of the Titans’ with lots of excitement for everyone watching and participating. This game was never going to be a done deal until the final whistle, with both teams fighting back on the scoreboard. The game culminating in both teams being in very big foul trouble in the final quarter. In the end, both sides had at least three players fouled off, with most of the other players left on the court on four fouls. This meant that a lot of time was spent at the free throw line and St Paul’s were doing their best to get back on the scoreboard, but the Redfield team, with tremendous support from the coaches won through with a final score of 91-68. Arville Clores was our highest scorer, with a very skilful game, followed closely by Chris del Rosario. Adrian Jaucian and Martin Ash get on with job with their consistent play and keeping their head in the game no matter what happens, while Sal Gerace is so passionate about his game he will always be there on the rebounds. Luke Abagi was showing his usual speed on the court and Marc and Ollie were definitely up there with the baskets. Great game boys!

17’s
The boys played a shortened game this week due to the extended time taken to finish the First V game and got off to a great start, leading 12 to 5 at half time. With Jermaine back from injury we had an advantage in the paint and our many rebounds helped to generate a solid lead. St Paul’s fought back in the second half, putting on some early points, however the boys defended well and a late three pointer from Martin Santos sealed the game. Redfield winning 24 to 13.
15’s
The 15’s started slowly with scoring hard to come by in the first half and both teams defending strongly. At half time the score was just 6 to 1 and it was always going to be anyone’s game. Redfield stood up in the second half through and broke away to finish the game with an 18 to 10 win, Will Neville staring with 12 of the 18 points scored. Some solid performances from the boys to win their last three after a shaky start to the season and the team is really starting to play well together.
14’s
Experience playing together is proving to be a major advantage in the competition this year with our boys playing so well as a team. Opposition teams are finding it hard to match our boys and this week was no exception. The boys led 31 to 2 at half time and went on to win 73 to 8 in a great effort. We are looking forward to a big challenge next week against St Augustine.
13’s
It looked to be another comfortable win to the 13’s again this week with the boys building a 22 to 5 lead at half time, however a glimmer of a comeback from St Pauls and some late foul trouble kept the boys on their toes and we finished strongly to win 44 to 25. The boys once again shared the scoring around and will also look forward to a big challenge from St Augustine next week.
